Crochet motif scarf
My first square motif construction in crochet. It seems over the years I've made many motifs but this is the first time I've ever put more than a couple together.
I love the huge needle.
So that's the four color combinations and I'll repeat until the scarf is 72 inches. I'm thinking about a black border right now.

Cotton basket weave variation series
There may be up to 15 in the series now, although I've given a few away before I remember to photograph them! They are mostly worsted weight, worked with a size 3 needle or smaller for a nice firm fabric. I included a linen one, although the linen ones are not generally in basketweave stitch.
This one is linen

Blues - merino and brushed alpaca
Scarf, merino and alpaca, size 3 cable needle 24 in. garter stitch
It seems like this scarf took forever! Size 3 needles make a fine gauge - but the results are lovely. I used a double-pointed needle and alternated the yarn each row, so that the yarns intertwined in an interesting way, even though it's a simple garter stitch.
Finished!

Wool in Soft Colors
Work in progress:
Capelet, wool, stockinette stitch, size 13 wood cable needle, 24 in.

This beautiful bulky wool is knitting up quickly - just what I need after working on so many fine gauge projects!

I'll be finishing off the ends, etc. so that it is reversible - I like the reverse stockinette look too.
Two different yarns make this lovely washed out look.

Old Prism Bubble
Triangle Shawl, mixed fibers: wool lurex linen silk nylon, wide rib stitch pattern, size 5 wood cable needle, 32 in
The novelty yarn Bubbles by Prism really makes this fabric. Bubbles is hardly available any longer because it was produced quite awhile ago, but I got a skein at a local shop that had been stored for a few years and was on the discount shelf. All other yarns perform supporting roles, however they are lovely in themselves.
When I got the Bubbles I knew I wanted to use it with other very subtle colors but I didn't know quite what. Then I came upon a work in progress that I wasn't liking very much and it happened to involve a lovely lilac linen and a light tweedy gray silk. A fine gauge needle was in orde because of the lace weights in the majority of the yarns. I wanted a more firm fabric than an open lacy one. I developed a color sequence which will have the Bubbles ocurring in a row about every three inches.
The wide rib pattern allows the Bubbles to show on both sides of the fabric.

wild nylon fuzzy thang
Shawl, mixed fibers: nylon, mohair, silk, wool, size 4 aluminum needles, 14 in.
The small gauge of this one makes for a lot of knitting, but the wild colors make it entertaining. I've had to put it aside several times to take a break. It will eventually end up being about 7 - 8 feet long, so it will perhaps be quite a while until it's complete. I've made stripes by changing yarns every row and also textural stripes by changing the stitch pattern from garter to stockinette. Wild things are happening in all aspects!

Colorful silk and abaca
Scarf, mixed fibers, abaca and silk, size 3 double pointed needles, wood, 8 in.
This is a fabric worked with two yarns in seed stitch. The yarns are worked in alternating rows throughout the length of the scarf. The abaca yarn produces the color variation in the fabric. It's about 8 inches wide and will be approximately 72 inches long.
One yarn is a solid red silk ribbon and the other is a wrapped variegated abaca fiber in pink, red, olive and black.
The fine gauge of the yarns and needles result in a huge amount of knitting in order to complete the rather large scarf 8x72 in. Because the fibers are not wool, but more like linen or a very fine cotton, the scarf will be more suitable as a fashion accessory rather than for warmth. The texture after just being knitted is somewhat like linen, meaning it will be a little stiff, and will soften the more the scarf is handled and cleaned. It will eventually drape beautifully like a well-worn linen or silk.

Japanese silk and linen
Shawl, silk and linen, garter stitch, size 5 cherry wood cable needle, 32 in.
This fine gauge silk and linen has a soft texture and a crispy texture. The linen paper yarn has little flags - they are tiny and just large enough to make a little sound as the fabric moves. They aren't big enough to be scratchy, and they soften with wear. I enjoy its light weight.
This is the second shawl using these same yarns together and I'm liking them all over again.

Degrade pink cotton shawl
Shawl, cotton, seed stitch, size 8 wood cable needle, 32 inches.
This has been lovely to knit, and I like the way it feels as it glides through my fingers while I'm knitting. It will be a meditation shawl.
I am using a yarn that is dyed with very gradual color changes and I'm using two skeins at once, with the colors changing in slightly different sequences so that the color in the fabric is different than that in either skein of yarn being knitted.
It's about 28 inches from top to bottom and will grow to about 80 inches from end to end, so that it will wrap nicely around the body.

Tan and spring green linen tape
Scarf, linen tape, garter stitch, two colors, size 3 wood cable needle, 24 in
Second attempt - the first attempt didn't even last long enough for a photo. This one was a basketweave stitch.
This is the third attempt at a design using this very fine linen yarn from the Japanese company, Habu Textiles. The two colors fascinate and enrage me because I love them together but the previous two designs just couldn't bring that balance that is needed. I've settled back into a garter stitch, which alternates the colors each row.
The yarn at this point still has a crispy texture, and I cannot WAIT to see what it's like once it has been washed! The tape is suited to the garter stitch and enhances the pebbly effect.

Scarf, mauve cotton and silk
I have this yarn in a deep cherry red color, and when I saw this lovely mauve I knew I would love working with it. It's not exactly a straightforward color and tends to be nice in lots of different kinds of light.
Scarf, cotton and silk garter sritch size 6 cable needle wood 24 inches
Debbie Bliss cotton silk aran made in Italy
I love this yarn! It just feels so good going through my fingers because of the silk that is blended in with the cotton. I love the way it shows all the stitch definition. It drapes beautifully and the heaviness is dreamy. It's an older yarn, and it's no longer easily found in retail markets.
At this point it's about a third of the way done. It's a heavy fabric because the yarn is heavy and I've made a dense texture by using the small needle and the garter stitch, which can be rather thick.
It's perfect for "public knitting" because the stitch is very straightforward and distractions don't disrupt the flow.
