The whites shawl - a work in progress

This shawl is 100 stitches across, knitted in seed stitch on a size 4 US cable needle. It is a combination of about 30 different yarns of various fibers and tones of white and beige. The finished shawl should be approximately 30 in x 72 in.

The warm colors are highlighted in the first two photos and I adjusted the white balance for the final two so that the more realistic colors are represented.

Mending a cashmere sweater

This beautiful red cashmere sweater is from days when I had moths, so they had a fairly substantial snack from the front of this beauty.  I've been contemplating how to mend it for years, and came across this velvet and also another cashmere sweater that I got in a clothing swap.  I think between the two acquired materials I shall be able to do either a patch/patches or some kind of reverse applique.  I want to use a good deal of embroidery too, in order to make the front of the sweater nice and splashy.

Chunky green merino and cashmere

Wimple, merino wool and cashmere, size 11 wood needles, 10"

I'm just casting on for a nice winter time wimple I'm going to knit a large rectangle and then seam it up the front to make a large tube.  I am going to make a crenolated border for the bottom by casting on and casting off, then I will make a perforated edge for the top, so that a drawstring can be pulled through and one may adjust it around the face.

Classic Stripes

Scarf; wool, cashmere; rib stitch; size US 6 wood needles, 10 in.

Each yarn was used for two rows forming a nice solid stripe in each color.  The rib made a nice vertical contrast with the horizontal stripes.

In the studio - black merino and cashmere

Capelet; merino wool and cashmere blend; stockinette stitch, size 6 cable needle, 24 in.;
original design

This yarn feels creamy and I enjoy the feel of it going through my fingers, although it does feel a little like knitting with rubber bands.  The size 6 needles make for a somewhat tight fabric, and I think due to the cashmere it will be a very warm capelet.  I have plenty of yarn, so I think I am going to keep going once I reach the final decrease for the neck and make a turtleneck.

I also know at this point that I want to make a fan crochet border at the bottom.  Maybe I'll ad a picot crochet border at the neck as well.

Cashmere blend capelet

Capelet, cashmere, silk, merino wool; rib stitch; size 3 cable needle, 24 in.

The size 3 needle makes this capelet work up very slowly, but the fine gauge gives it some weight, since it's almost light as a feather.  Even with a size three needle it's still almost lacey. I began this back in October and pick it up every now and then, hoping that what I do eventually becomes apparent.  As I'm knitting I can barely perceive any progress.  But now looking at in the the photo, it's going to amount to something in the near future!!!

Cashmere knit purse

Cashmere knit fabric, cut into one continuous strip for knitting, size 13 cable needle, rib stitch, lined with China silk, suede button closure.

I had a blast making this purse! The fabric is a very luxurious cashmere knit, a scrap that I got from a clothing designer a couple years ago. The strip is less than a half inch wide, and I think that was the key to it being a very flexible but sturdy fabric. The lining gives it the perfect body. I gave it to my sister for her birthday last week and she's enjoying it.
